At More Than A Teacher we believe students need more than just smart teachers to tell them what to do.

That’s why we hire the best tutors, teachers, and administrative staff that Austin has to offer. Our staff is knowledgeable, caring, and enthusiastic about helping students improve.

Paul Schultz

Owner, Founder, and SAT Math Instructor

Meet our owner, founder, and favorite math teacher, Paul Schultz. Paul started MTAT in 1989. He’s been enthusiastically helping students outsmart the SAT ever since. Paul is still a full time school teacher as his “day job”. He is also a dedicated husband and father of four (if you don’t count his labradoodle or all of his students and staff). Be sure to say hi the next time you see Paul when you stop by our Westlake office.

Rob Williams

Partial Owner, SAT Reading/Writing Instructor

Rob has been involved in education for the last 30 years as an administrator, classroom teacher, and test-prep instructor for More Than a Teacher. Along the way, he has been a featured speaker at national education conferences, a teacher trainer and mentor for new teachers, the recipient of the teacher-of-the-year award, a voiceover actor for commercials, a podcaster, and a writer of three novels. Rob loves to read, write, take part in any water-related activity, and spend time with his wife and two sons.

Patrick Frank

SAT, ACT Instructor and Director of College Essay Program

Patrick Ryan Frank has been a tutor and instructor at More Than a Teacher for over a decade. During that time, he’s worked with thousands of students, helping them hone their writing and testing skills, become more confident in their innate abilities, and discover the best paths forward. The author of two books and a former Fulbright Fellow to Iceland, Patrick spends much of his time eating tacos on patios while complaining about the Texas heat.

Mattie Tyner

SAT and ACT Instructor, Director of Tutoring

Mattie Tyner has been teaching test prep at MTAT since 2007. She is the author of the MTAT SAT and ACT curriculums. Mattie has helped hundreds of students ace their tests and perfect their application essays. She has a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Texas, Austin. Her hobbies include cooking, camping, and playing piano.

Kim Parker-Lewis

College Advisor, Program Coordinator, Test Prep and Academic Instructor

Kim began at MTAT as a part-time test prep classroom instructor and private tutor in 2012, but she has been helping students master admissions testing since she was a high school student herself. Kim’s background is as a secondary Life Sciences teacher, with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She came on board with MTAT full-time when she took over as our College Advisor. Kim is passionate about helping students and families navigate the college admissions process with ease and confidence – her goal is always for students to surprise themselves with their own success and gain admission to their top choice colleges or post-high school programs. When she isn’t teaching classes throughout the Austin area, she loves to get away to the coast and get lost in a book or host a campout with friends and family.

Stephanie Watson

SAT & ACT Instructor

Steph Watson has been a SAT and ACT tutor and instructor for over 10 years. She’s worked with countless students to increase their confidence both in content and strategy to be able to increase their scores and gain entrance to the school of their dreams. With an undergraduate degree from LSU in Mathematics, a masters degree in Math Education from UT Austin, and 10 years in the classroom teaching courses ranging from Algebra to Pre Calculus, her expertise are in math, but she enjoys helping students find success in all areas of the SAT and ACT tests. When she’s not teaching, you can find Steph at an Austin FC match with her husband or at the park or pool with her daughter (and another on the way!).
