SAT Subject Tests, formerly known as SAT IIs, are shorter and more
specialized than the SAT. Each test is comprised of questions pertaining
to one course of study, such as Biology, Spanish or History. Subject
Tests are an hour in length and follow a multiple-choice format
SAT Subject Tests are required or recommended by many colleges. Some
colleges require specific Subject Tests for admission or placement,
while others allow you to choose which tests to take. The University
of California system, for example, requires two tests from different
subject areas: a combination of US History and Math Level 2 tests
would be acceptable, however, a combination of US History and World
History tests would not be permitted.
In determining which Subject Tests to take, your first step is to
contact the admissions offices at your prospective colleges and find
out their requirements.
